A Tradition Born of Excellence The University of California. Fall Semester, 1926 - "Nimitz cruised the campus on foot scouting for likely candidates. In front of Old North Hall, he espied and buttonholed Freshman James Archer and gave him a fast sales talk. Archer was interested but asked if it mattered that his father was an army colonel. Nimitz assured him that it did not. Archer not only signed up but talked his room-mate Tracy D. Cuttle into signing up too. 'We certainly don't want to get into the Army,' said Archer." - from Nimitz by E.B. Potter

The Unit has commissioned Naval officers since 1926 and those who graduated have plenty of stories to tell. From one midshipman's exciting summer cruise searching for Amelia Earhart to the story of the Craig Twins, NROTC alums have experienced it all. |
