1.  Purpose  The purpose of Final evals is to provide midshipmen with substantive feedback about their performance during the past semester. This feedback may be used to determine future billets, class ranking, awards, and for rising seniors, service selection. Therefore, in order to make the Final eval process as worthwhile as possible, please take time to reflect upon your performance and the performance of those you are evaluating. A word of warning: Incorrect formatting will not be tolerated. Ask questions before you send up mistakes!

2.  Procedure  The Final eval process will follow the path and schedule outlined below. All deadlines are absolute. If questions arise, direct them to your first round evaluator.

            b.  Deadlines are as follows at 1800 for the days listed:

Due to first round evaluators:             25 April

Due to second round evaluators:        1 May

                        Due to BCO:                                       6 May

3.  Instructions  All midshipmen must complete the eval template in enclosure (1) and the brag sheet in enclosure (5). Complete and explicit instructions for the eval template are given in enclosures (2) and (3). All midshipmen should familiarize themselves with the directions before beginning, as all improperly formatted evals will be sent back. An example of a properly completed eval is given in enclosure (4).

4.  Notes for Evaluators  Evaluators should familiarize themselves with the guidelines listed in enclosure (3) before beginning. Please resist the temptation to inflate grades in blocks 15-20. A score of 3 is a good score; scores of 4 and 5 should be reserved for midshipmen who have consistently gone above and beyond the call of duty. Read the brag sheets for your people and consider their comments when filling out evals. All evaluators MUST check the eval forms for errors before passing them on to the next round.

5.  Brag Sheets  All midshipmen will submit brag sheets along with their completed eval  forms. The brag sheets can be found in enclosure (5). The purpose of the brag sheet is to help you call attention to all the ways you contributed to the battalion and your personal growth over the semester. They can be as long as you like—they can only help raise your marks.

6.  Submission  Once you have completed your eval form and brag sheet, save the using the following file names: LastnameFI_Eval.doc (for evals) and LastnameFI_Brag.doc (for brag sheets). Example: BrethauerJ_Eval.doc and BrethauerJ_Brag.doc. Attach these two files to an email and send it to your first round evaluator.

First and second round evaluators will simply save their changes to each file (keeping the filenames unchanged) and send them on to the next round.

Second round evaluators will submit electronic copies of both evals and brags to the BCO (jtbret@berkeley.edu) and place a hardcopy of the evals only in his box by the deadline.

                                                                                    Respectfully,
