The Ring Dance

The annual Ring Dance honors the Midshipmen who are entering into their First-Class year, recognizing their role in the Battalion and the role that they will play in the Fleet. It is performed as a formal dinner, presentation, and dance held in April. While it is a formal ceremony, it is not without a fun spirit. With that in mind, to introduce each Midshipman, a presentation is created that gives a more rounded and often comical view of the Midshipman - generally by giving each a surprise introduction using baby pictures. The evening is a combination of reverence and revelry, ensuring that a great time is had by all. The 2003 Ring Dance, highly regarded as the best in recent years, was held at the Waterfront Hotel in Jack London Square in Oakland, and was organized by MIDN 3/C Matthew Kimball.
